CVS Is Coming For Me
Posted by mygoodcentsMar 7
So I just got an email from CVS Enforcement and OpSec Security (according to the email, I will be receiving this in the regular mail also) that states in exhausting legal terms, I need to “expeditiously remove or disable access to all unauthorized copies of CVS’s intellectual property”.
Simply put, take all the coupon posts down or we are coming after you.
Hmph.
Update : I copied the letter and put it here.
So just for linking to THEIR coupons you can get in trouble???
What that is just crazy! Out of all the many others, how did they pick you! Very Weird!
Jennifer - I guess so … kinda crazy. If I was hosting copied versions of the coupons I could understand but just linking to them.. especially since they are all expired anyway
Oh well..
Misty - I know
I feel like I’ve really arrived in the blog world!
WHAT? What a crock. How crazy. CVS, bite me!
In my best Joe Friday voice:
We are the CVS police, we understand that you are blogging about our great deals, and linking coupons. You have been found guilty and forfeit all of your coupons.
paidtwice ~ that’s what I thought… how crazy!
Beth ~ lol, I was thinking … don’t threaten me with legal action, threaten to take away my CVS card! That’s how you get things done
Put this on the Consumerist! They’re trying to bully you into refraining from doing something perfectly legal.

You know, if CVS used a coupon printer software (which I loathe) they could resolve this issue instantly and across the whole interwebbox without irking their consumers. Or they can send legal threats over the most trivial of things possible. Go CVS!
I’ll be making sure to use Walgreens for my prescriptions in the future.
Caveat: I’m no lawyer, but I’ve been on the corporate side of internet marketing, so I can provide my 2 cents from that POV. They need to go after the people posting the illegal coupons, not those linking to them. This is just a ridiculous scare to cover up some stupid mistakes they’ve made. It’s not your responsibility to know if a coupon is legal or illegal (unless you specifically say “this is an illegal coupon - use it!” However if you’re just linking to it, they should just let that go. You’ll take down the link if it goes to a dead page.
They do not have a case against you if all you were doing was linking to their site. That’s fair use. Bigger firms than CVS have lost over issues such as these.
thanks for all your comments
…. I think they are just stinking crazy. First of all, you are giving them PLENTY of FREE advertising. You should send them a bill for all the FREE advertising you have given them and tell them to pay up…ECBs or else.
Geesh, just when I was thinking about shopping with them they do this stupid crap. I believe I’ll give my business to Walgreen’s exclusively.
Vote with your dollar and hurt them where it counts.
