July 2, 2010

in Win Stuff

This giveaway has ended. Congrats to Nikki!

Are you a safety nut when it comes to your kids? When my son was little, I was crazy overprotective. The kid couldn’t breathe without me looking it up in a book or calling the doctor.

Looking back I know I went a little overboard on the safety precautions I took for everything but I still believe you can never be too safe when it comes to your kids car seat. That’s precious cargo and accidents can happen in the blink of an eye!

Evenflo has just introduced the new Momentum 65 car seat with e3 side impact crash technology which reduces side impact crash forces by 50%. The car seat also features an infinite slide harness which allows for easy adjustment as your child grows.

Safety, ease of use, plus the extras like a cup holder and comfort touch padding! Who could ask for more?

In conjunction with the new Momentum 65 and in honor of crazy parents everywhere, Evenflo has also introduced The Savvy Parents Online Guide which features witty webisodes, an advice blog, and ways for parents to connect. Check out these savvy tips!

Evenflo has generously offered to give one lucky My Good Cents reader an Ultimate Savvy Parent’s Car Kit which includes the following :

Keep a beach (swimming) bag packed and ready to go and grab every time you go out in the summer- you just never know when you will be invited or get the urge to go swimming.

Keeping them entertained with positive influences is so important. Children can get so antsy during the summer. This year has been difficult because I have not had work. However, instead of eating out…we have a picnic on the trampoline. We take the dog for walks, etc…. to pass the time. I feel we have built some great memories this summer, passing the time together.

Thank you for the entry,

Nikki

If the kids are old enough, Ghost is a great game. If one of your kids isn’t old enough, then they might get a kick out of somebody whispering to them what letter they should say. And if you have an overly-sensitive kid, if the word ends on them, you say, “Yay – you get to go first!” My son is 20 now, and if we are waiting to be seated at a restaurant, he’ll say, “R,” because he’s used to passing the time by playing Ghost! Both of my kids are great spellers, and we now do the advanced Ghost, where you can say whether you want to add the letter to the beginning or the end of the word, instead of just at the end. And he STILL says, “Yay – I get to go first,” when the word ends on him, even though we had employed that technique for our daughter who used to say we were yelling at her if we looked at her the wrong way!

We always keep a fully stocked emergency kit in the car, not only first aid, but a tire air gauge (very important anywhere but especially in Phoenix), a full first aid kit that includes things more than just the standard bandaids, a case of water, blankets (it does get cold at night), emergency tire repair kit, jumper cables, and some snacks like beef jerky and peanut butter. You can never be too careful and I learned to keep my car stocked like this coming from living in North Idaho where you could easily get snowed in during a blizzard driving through town and it doesn’t hurt to keep well prepared.

Pack special foods and drinks the kids like so they can eat what they like, when they like. Also I always take tylenol, bandaides and things we might need-just in case.

We have an extra bag in the car packed full of stuff we may need. Extra undies, more diapers, bandaids, and TOYS!
Seems like my kids always get bored so we always have extra toys for them in the car.
Thanks!

My tip is to bring a magnet board on trips for playing so pieces are less likely to fall

177 Susan Smith July 13, 2010 at 8:34 am

I always carry, snacks, water and an activity book in case we are stuck somewhere for a while

My savvy parenting tip is bring the portable DVD player along for car rides. It keeps the kids entertained and less arguing amongst them.

Keep a roll of stickers readily available for little kids. They love them and will behave for them.

182 Casey Becher July 13, 2010 at 9:57 am

I keep a “restaurant bag” packed. It has color books, paper, crayons and bendaroos to keep the kids busy at the restaurant.

Make sure everyone (Even Mom and Dad!) have made a pit stop before you leave for that trip!

186 Lanie July 13, 2010 at 11:05 am

I duct tape their mouths shut.

187 Amanda July 13, 2010 at 11:06 am

Always have an extra diaper bag packed and ready in case you are in a hurry and your main diaper bag is running low on supplies, that way you can grab and go and still have everything you need.

188 Carrie July 13, 2010 at 11:12 am

I keep a small bag of “goodies” to bring with us to keep them occupied (stickers, paper, matchbox cars, crayons etc) The crayons and stickers are great when waiting at the doctors office because the kids can decorate the paper on the exam table while waiting

189 Tiffany July 13, 2010 at 11:42 am

I have the pockets on the backs of front seats filled with age appropriate books for the child sitting behind that seat. This way they can read or color as they want and it doesnt’ get the backseat all covered with books. My two year old especially likes this because since he is mister independent it makes him feel like he is in complete control of what he is doing!

I keep a “backup” diaper bag in the car for the random things I don’t usually carry with me like bathing suits, empty sippy cups, an extra set of shoes and socks, back up clothes, umbrella, and other seasonal gear I may forget.

196 AMANDA SMITH July 13, 2010 at 2:15 pm
